Well-SENSE scoops international ICoTA award
11 April 2018
Downhole technology specialist, Well-SENSE, has been awarded the prestigious Intervention Technology Award from the Intervention and Coiled Tubing Association (ICoTA) for its pioneering FiberLine Intervention (FLI) Technology.
This highly-sought after accolade recognises outstanding technical innovation or application of well intervention technology which reduces risk, increases production, improves safety and minimises environmental impact.
The Aberdeen-based company was also awarded the ICoTA Europe Innovation Award in November 2017.
Receiving the award, Tad Bostick, Well-SENSE Inc. Western Hemisphere commercial director, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to receive the prestigious Intervention Technology Award from ICoTA, who have once again recognised the value our FLI technology can deliver to the industry.
“FLI is an entirely new approach to well intervention for the purpose of data capture and well profiling. It significantly reduces the cost and risks associated with traditional wireline logging. It can gather field wide or single well distributed data over time and depth simultaneously, for a greater understanding of the well and reservoir environment.
“In contrast to traditional intervention methods such as wireline, slick line and coil tubing which require large amounts of surface equipment and personnel, the FLI system is unique in that it uses a compact and disposable fiber optic probe and lays bare line into the well which does not need to be recovered. ‘Rigging up’, data capture and ‘rigging down’ is usually completed within a couple of hours, with the probe and fibre optic dropped downhole to quickly dissolve in the well environment.”
This innovative and disruptive technology is delivering significant cost savings by avoiding the non-productive downtime usually associated with intervention operations, but more importantly has a dramatic effect in helping to address integrity challenges and ultimately increase production. Active-FLI components include HD cameras for real-time video streaming and tractor driven conveyancing to access horizontal or highly deviated wells.
Well-SENSE, alongside ClearWELL, Well-Centric, and the recently launched Pragma, is part of the FrontRow Energy Technology Group.
